MICRODERMABRASION FACTS

How does Microdermabrasion work?

Microdermabrasion is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses inert crystals fired onto the skin’s surface. This process gently abrades the layers of dead and damaged skin cells.

On completion of the abrasive process, a vacuum suction whisks away the fired crystals and the unwanted abraded skin particles leaving your skin smoother, brighter, firmer and with a course of procedures blemish free.

You will see an immediate visible result of youthful brilliance, and tonicity to dull and stressed looking skin even after one procedure of ClairDerm Microdermabrasion, however a program will be advised depending on your skin’s condition and aesthetic goals. Once you have achieved your goal, your therapist will customise a ClairDerm maintenance program especially suited to your skin needs. This program helps maintain an even brighter, clearer, firmer and healthier looking skin.

Streams of very fine sapphire crystals are swept over the face in a manner similar to the way in which a car is stripped of all its paint by sandblasting. The fine sapphire crystals remove the outermost layer of the skin, allowing the cells beneath to multiply and renew the surface. The body interprets this as a mild injury and rushes to replace the lost skin cells with new and healthy ones. In the first hour after treatment, this may cause mild swelling and redness. Depending on the individual, these side effects can last anywhere from an hour to two days.

This process has a few beneficial effects. With the first layer of skin (stratum corneum) gone, its surface is improved. The healing process brings with it newer skin cells that look and feel smoother. Some of the skin's visible imperfections, like sun damage, blemishes and fine lines, are also removed. Also, due to the removal of the dead skin cells acting as a barrier, medicinal creams and lotions are more effective because more of their active ingredients and moisture can find their way down to the lower layers of skin.
